Twitter Benefits College Students

A new study, recently released by Michigan State University suggests that university students that use Twitter as part of their education feel more connected to why they are learning and do better in class. This study supports the conclusion in a 2010 report from Penn State that also found that student use of Twitter benefitted their overall grades in their classes. Many will find these facts to be surprising because Twitter has a lower overall usage rate than Facebook and many users report that it is harder to learn. While tacking into account parent reaction to the newest study, many of them are not surprised by students’ heightened engagement due to Twitter. Many parents reported being told that “only old people use Facebook, Twitter is where its at!” comments like these show that many students are turning towards Twitter as their primary social media outlet.
